Why Fish the Middle Fork?

The spectacular Middle Fork of the Salmon River flows 100 miles through Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness and drops down nearly 3,000 vertical feet through a jaw-droppingly beautiful ancient granite rock canyon. By September, rapids have slowed down and the water becomes clear and serene. Fall colors emerge in August and are in full bloom by September. Wildlife, including river otter, elk, moose, mountain goats, big-horn sheep and countless others are most active this time of year enjoying the near perfect weather. Average daytime highs hover in the mid-70s with cooler nights, and abundant sunshine.

The Salmon River fishery has been managed by the State of Idaho as a catch and release fishery since 1973 and is highly protected. The fish are abundant. You will not leave this river disappointed. If you are an adventurer looking to completely disconnect and engage fully with nature, while experiencing some of the best fly fishing in the Northwest, well this trip is a must do!
