Sam is a technical guy. His favorite rapid depends on the water level, the boat he’s running, and the time of year. That’s what makes him such an excellent guide — his attention to detail and ability to navigate all conditions on the Middle Fork.

Sam says his funny and embarrassing moments are as numerous as the grains of sand at Elk Bar. If you get the chance, you should ask him about the glasses he lost the first time he rowed the Middle Fork.

When he’s not sharing the experiences of the Middle Fork, he’s correcting everyone’s grammar as a high school English teacher. We wouldn’t be surprised if he sends us edits to this bio.
