What is trip insurance?

To protect your investment, trip cancellation and interruption insurance are strongly recommended. Please contact your travel agent to find a plan that suits your risk tolerance, health concerns, age, etc. Another option is Allianz, a highly reputable online travel insurance provider who is also partnered with the local Idaho travel experts at Global Travel. You can purchase insurance directly by visiting www.allianztravelinsurance.com. Plans are more affordable than you might think and truly priceless when it comes to protecting your valuable travel investment, which is generally booked years in advance.

What about cancellations?

If a reservation with Middle Fork Rapid Transit is canceled prior to launch then a guest’s deposit will be refunded according to the following schedule: • 12 + months prior to launch date 100% of deposit will be refunded. • 6-12 months prior to launch date 50% of deposit will be refunded. • 0-6 months prior to launch date NO REFUNDS of deposit or any final payments will be made. Final balances will be due promptly 6 months before launch date. No refunds will be made if a guest cancels a reservation LESS than 6 months prior to launch date. For this reason to protect your investment, trip cancellation and interruption insurance are HIGHLY recommended through a reputable national travel insurance company or through your local travel agent. *Please note confirmed spots are transferable to another person if you are able to find a replacement.  Any trips purchased through a charity/auction must be used on the dates specified in the event's marketing materials.  Dates cannot be re-booked if unable to attend.  Per our regular policy, reservations are transferable to another participant if you are able to find a replacement. Middle Fork Rapid Transit (MFRT) reserves the right to alter a trip at any time. The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is located in a wilderness area and prone to natural occurrences that may change the expected logistics of your trip (i.e. flying in or out of the river may become necessary at an additional cost). In the very unlikely event that MFRT is forced to actually cancel a trip, refunds will be issued.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. For guaranteed booking, we require a $600 deposit per person. Deposits can be placed with VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or by check.

How early should I reserve a trip?

Make your reservation as early as possible, as trips do tend to fill up fast! For more information, please call: [phone number]

Are the mosquitoes or bugs bad?

No. Due to the arid climate, there are very few mosquitoes or other bugs on the Middle Fork. Later in the summer, we start to see yellow jacket wasps, so if you are allergic to wasp or bee stings, please let us know.

What about sanitation and toilet facilities?

We will always have a hand wash system at lunch and in camp at the kitchen and near the toilet. There are no flush toilets or pit outhouses allowed along the Middle Fork. All human waste has to be taken out with us. We are happy to preserve the banks and camps along the river and provide the best available tank portable toilets for our group.

Do you have storage for suitcases or other items we don’t want to bring on the river?

We have storage available at the hotel we’ll be staying in the night before the trip. You can leave a suitcase containing all your travel gear there the morning we depart, or you can leave it in your car.

Can I bring my cell phone or satellite phone?

Fortunately, cell phones do not work along the Middle Fork. If you must bring a satellite phone, please do not use it openly around the group. We carry a satellite phone with us for emergencies, and it’s used at the discretion of our guide crew. Many people bring their phones as cameras, though.

What about tipping the guide staff?

Our guides work really hard to provide great service. Gratuities are certainly appreciated and normally range between 10%– 20% of the trip cost. Gratuities are typically given to the lead guide back in Stanley when we say our farewells.

Do I need to bring cash?

You may want to bring cash for items that you can purchase at the store on the fourth day, or for tips for the guides. www.flyingbranch.com

Can beginners go on your trips?

Absolutely. The Middle Fork is a class III+ river and is great for people of all experience levels, including beginners — even at high water!

When is the best time to go?

This depends on the type of trip you are looking for. For more information about the different trips, please click here: https://mfrt.com/rafting-adventures/

What is the age limit for your trips?

In general, we take folks from eight years old to 80 years old during late June through the rest of the summer. Early season (June 2–20) our minimum age is 14 years old due to the higher flows. Not all years have high water, so sometimes those June trips are suitable for eight-year-olds too. If you have an experienced seven-year-old, we will make exceptions from time to time. If you have any questions about this, please give us a call to discuss particulars on age.

What separates your river company from the others?

Our family. Middle Fork Rapid Transit has been family owned and operated by the Porters since 1980. Our guides. Our guides don’t move around during the summer working different rivers with different crews—they work together all summer, year in and year out and their experience, professionalism and cohesiveness show. Our food. Our food continually exceeds expectations and has been featured on Great Chef’s outdoor feature.
